Before you get started, it's helpful to understand that everyone using Slack has a role in their workspace or the grid, as explained in the infographic (right). Here are answers to some of the most frequently asked questions about inviting others into a workspace or channel. But if the person you want to invite isn’t a member of Slack - or even affiliated with Stanford - the process requires a few additional considerations. You can invite others to join you in any Slack workspace or channel you belong to, usually just by sending an invite. They can only collaborate with the members they share channels with. Single- and multi-channel guests can join your workspace but have limited access. No one with a SUNetID should be added to a workspace as a guest. Workspace Owner or AdminĮveryone in this group has a SUNet ID and can use all the features in Slack, except those that are limited to owners and admins. They can help manage members and channels, and do other administrative tasks. This is the only role not available to everyone. They are the only ones who can add a workspace to the grid. This group manages the settings, permissions, and policies that affect the entire org. Each role has a different level of permissions. A small group has a role in managing the enterprise grid. If something goes wrong, it’ll give you an error message.Everyone who uses Stanford Slack has a role in their workspace. In Metabase, click on the Save changes button and that’s it! Metabase will automatically run a quick test to check that the API token and your dedicated Slack channel are working properly. If you rename the channel in Slack, you’ll need to update the Slack Channel Name in Metabase to that new name. Make sure the channel you create is the same channel that you enter in this field in Metabase (omit the “#” prefix). This channel allows your Metabase to post to your Slack workspace without having to deal with unnecessary permissions. In your Slack workspace, create a public channel named whatever you want - we think something like “metabase” does just fine - then enter that channel’s name in the Slack Channel Name field in Metabase. Create a dedicated Metabase channel in your Slack Return to the Slack settings page in your Metabase and paste this token in the Metabase field with the same name. On the Slack site page for your Slack app, on the left in the Features section, click on OAuth and Permissions in the Slack Apps sidebar and then copy the Bot User OAuth Token. On the next screen, click Allow to give Metabase access to your Slack workspace. On the Slack site for your newly created app, in the Settings > Basic Information tab, under Install your app, click on Install to workspace. Then hit Create to set up your Slack app. The manifest just take cares of some settings for your app and helps speed things along.Ĭlick the Next button.
